Using the word “Because” gets results. In 1978 a psychologist conducted a study about how using the right language when asking for a favor can get you better results.
She told participants that were trying to get in front of a line to say one of the three excuses in order to get in front of the line:
“Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine?”
“Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I have to make copies?”
“Excuse me, I have 5 pages. May I use the xerox machine, because I’m in a rush?”
When the participants said the word “Because” it resulted in 94% of them being able to get in front of the line!
